Homemade Hummus

Hummus

Hummus is one of the simplest foods to prepare and surprisingly one of the most overpriced in grocery stores. The recipe below costs no more than $1.50 (for approximately 2 lbs of hummus) whereas it would cost between $10-$15 (depending where you shop) for the same amount in the store.

It does yield a large quantity but it can be frozen and the consistency will stay the same. However, keep in mind that it will expand in the freezer so allow for some extra room within the container.

INGREDIENTS

  • 19 oz cooked chickpeas
  • 1/4 cup of tahini
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • pinch of chili powder
METHOD
Put all ingredients in a bowl and blend with a hand-held blender.
